Pedagogical Faculty

High standard education is one of the priorities of the Hradec Králové region. On the academic level there is the University of Hradec Králové founded in the year 2001 as a result of the transformation of the former College of Education, and until the year 1989 a self-standing Pedagogical Faculty. The two faculties of the new University - Pedagogical Faculty and Faculty of Information Science and Management should be completed in near future by a third one the Faculty of Social Studies. There are about four thousand students at the university in all types of under-graduate and post-graduate programmes. Hradec Králové however provides also other types of university education at the Medical Faculty and Faculty of Pharmacy of Charles University or at the Military Medical Academy.

On the secondary level there is a network of 59 different schools in the Hradec Králové region, some of which have students from all over the country. It is before all the Secondary Vocational School of Stonemasonry in Hořice or the Secondary Technical School of Forestry in Trutnov. Besides the state schools, now placed under regional administration, there are also private schools and church schools. Among those there are two secondary grammar schools, twelve secondary technical schools and four vocational schools.

There are also ten under-graduate vocational schools in the region; four of which in Hradec Králové itself.

The number and size of primary schools is in relation to the specific needs and structure of population in different parts of the region. Therefore in the districts of Rychnov nad Kněžnou and Trutnov you will often come across schools that provice teaching only to young learners.
