The facilities providing basic medical care in the Hradec Králové region have a high standard with respect ot their capacity, technical equipment and general medical services. In the 1990s the network of institutions has undergone a thorough transformation including privatization of some of them, establisment of private medical sector and abolishing of the ineffective ones.

The University Hospital in Hradec Králové houses all the specialised clinics and its significance extends beyond the borders of the region due to its expertise and technical standard. Other major hospitals in the region are those in Nový Bydžov, Jičín, Hořice, Náchod, Broumov, Rychnov nad Kněžnou, Opočno, Trutnov, Dvůr Králové nad Labem and in Vrchlabí in the Krkonoše mountains.

The centre of regional emergency service in Hradec Králové is equipped with helicopters. Agreements concerning borderland cooperation make possible operation on the Polish territory in case of an emergency.

The Hospice of Agnes of Bohemia in Červený Kostelec

In recent years the situation has markedly improved in the sphere of social care. The bedding capacity of various social establishments cover the needs of the region, although the demographic development and restitutions of certain buildings make the construction of new buildings for senior citizens´ homes and communitary care service homes necessary. In the year 2001 a new senior citizens´ home was opened in Česká Skalice.

The excellent reputation of the services of the Hospice of Agnes of Bohemia in Červený Kostelec extends beyond the borders of the region. Another hospice-type establishment was opened in the year 2001 in Žireč near Dvůr Králové nad Labem.
