Exhibition of Geoparks in the foyer area of V. Preclík of the Regional Office of the Hradec Králové Region

18. 6. 2020 Autor: Lukáš Zábranský

The exhibition presents the basic ideas of contemporary national geoparks and offers an unconventional look into the history of the planet Earth. Geoparks tell the 4.6 billion year old story of the Earth and the processes that shaped it.

National geoparks come with a new perspective on the protection and connection of geological heritage with local resources and local natural values. With the help of the basic pillars - education, eco-tourism, research and regional development - national geoparks seek non-traditional support for more and less well-known areas of the Czech Republic.

UNESCO Global Geopark Bohemian Paradise

Bohemian Paradise is a unique area with an extraordinary diversity of geological and geomorphological phenomena associated with living nature and its ecosystems. Thanks to the exceptional diversity of the geological relief, unique conditions have been created here for human activity, leaving both tangible and intangible monuments in the landscape. The Bohemian Paradise Geopark is located between the towns of Mnichovo Hradiště, Železný Brod, Jilemnice, Nová Paka, Jičín and Turnov and its area is 833 km2. The territory of the geopark has been the bottom of the seas and lakes repeatedly over the hundreds of millions of years, and volcanic activity has taken place here several times.

Due to its extremely valuable geological, natural, historical and landscape values, the Bohemian Paradise was included in the European Network of Geoparks and the Global Network of Geoparks in 2005. In 2015, the Bohemian Paradise Geopark became the only one in the Czech Republic to carry the UNESCO Global Geopark brand.
