Jewish monuments form an individual category of religious monuments.

Rychnov n.Kn. - hřbitov

Compared to the objects of Christian churches they are unique mostly in that they do not serve their original purpose any more. Due to the almost complete elimination of Jewish minority in the horror of the Holocaust, the Jewish religious communities but for a few exceptions do no longer exist in the Hradec Králové Region. Yet there is in the territory of our region relatively large number of monuments that are connected to the Jewish faith and culture – both synagogues and cemeteries with precious tombstones.


Dobruška - mikve

Dobruška - ritual cleansing bath

A part of the permanent exhibition "Jews in the history of Dobruška" is a ritual cleansing bath from the 18th century. It is situated right in the building of the museum, in the very closeness of the synagogue. It is the only ritual cleansing bath in the Czech Republic, which is accessible to the public.

Hořice - hřbitov

Hořice – Jewish cemetery

A valued cemetery with about 800 tombstones of Baroque and Classicist type. It was founded in the mid 17th century.

Hradec Králové - synagoga

Hradec Králové – synagogue

The synagogue was built in the Art Nouveau style with oriental elements. Apart from the prayer hall there was also an apartment of the rabbi in the building and a meeting hall with an archive. After 1960 the building was used for the needs of the state. Since 2008 it has been the State Scientific Library.

Jičín - synagoga

Jičín - synagogue

The synagogue was probably built in the 2nd half of the 18th century. The building represents an extremely pure form of Classicist small synagogue. The synagogue is restored to its original state and is used for cultural purposes. Guided tours available.

Nový Bydžov – synagogue and Jewish cemetery

The synagogue was built in 1568 and after the fire in 1901 it was rebuilt in Art Nouveau style in 1902. In Nový Bydžov there is also a very valuable old Jewish cemetery with around 1500 tombstones (the oldest one is from 1645) and several tombs of Renaissance and Baroque type.

Podbřezí – Jewish cemetery

A reconstructed forest cemetery from the 17th century with ninety-two Baroque and Classicist tombstones. Jewish settlement Podbřezí - Skalka is known from the novel Darkness written by Alois Jirásek.

Rychnov n.Kn. - synagoga

Rychnov nad Kněžnou – synagogue (Jewish museum Podorlicko) and Jewish cemetery

A synagogue from the 17th century was destroyed by fire and was newly built in 1782. It is used as a regional Jewish museum and memorial to Karel Poláček. In 2002 there was on the southern front unveiled a memorial to the victims of the Holocaust. In Rychnov nad Kněžnou there is also a well-preserved cemetery.
