Christian monuments

Religious monuments built over the centuries are an essential part of the cultural heritage of our nation. Urban churches, rural churches, chapels, monasteries, hospitals, places of pilgrimage, Stations of the Cross and Calvary in the fields, all these objects had become the distinctive dominant features of towns, villages and are part of the Czech cultural landscape aspect.

Lučice - kostel
In most villages the oldest preserved buildings are represented by religious monuments. Hradec Králové Region offers in the art-historical terms a whole range of artistic styles – from Romanesque elements up to functionalist architecture. The most significant in religious buildings in our region is the Baroque style represented by masters such as Santini, Alliprandi and Dientzenhofer. In the twentieth century important buildings of modern architecture also began to appear and were built especially by “national” Czechoslovakian Church.

Although religious monuments cannot be visited as a separate thematic category, like castles and chateaux, they form part of the cultural values of towns and villages and deserve the tourists´ attention.
