Mountain climbing in Bohemian Paradise

      Mountain climbing in Bohemian Paradise

Horolezectví v Českém ráji
Mountain climbing in Bohemian Paradise has a very long tradition even if it is one of the least solid sandstone rock areas in the Czech Republic. If it is wet then its firmness is decreased even more and it will crumble and erode. This is the reason why it is forbidden to climb on the wet sandstone and during the winter. Anchorage in the Bohemian Paradise rock towns is ensured by rings which are several meters away from each other. Further anchoring can only be done using loops. Anchoring using crack clamps is forbidden. In the protected areas of Bohemian Paradise climbing can only be done by registered mountain climbers and a number of rocks are closed due to nesting of endangered bird species. Hence the rocks are not suitable for those who only want to try rock climbing. Mountain climbing schools take their clients away from the protected area or utilize man-made climbing walls. Beyond the protected area there are several less important areas including the sandstone formations near Bezděčín by Hodkovice nad Mohelkou called Kvočny and the quartz Kozinec, which form a sharp ridge above the swimming pool in Železný Brod.
