The Sheltered workshop, civic association: “With sport against barriers“

Original pottery articles - mugs and cups, salt and pepper shakers, candlesticks, screens, cat statues, vases and figural crèches with characters. The handicrafts are made by people with various disabilities. The sheltered workshop is focused primarily on the production of ceramic objects. In the workshop they also make products from rods, pedig and paper (baskets, gift boxes), wood and small little things for joy.

Martina Hofmanová – Little sweet things

The production of cloth toys of various shapes, pillows, pickpockets and other decorative products under the name of “Little sweet things”. Martina Hofmanová began the production in 2003. She makes the products in the studio in Nová Paka.

Sheep wool and woven products made of natural material

Products from manually processed sheep's wool continue in a long-term regional tradition. Products are made by hand knitting, crocheting, weaving, felting and bobbining. For instance scarves, gloves, hats, socks, bags, pillows, sweaters, vests, rugs, table linen, bobbin pictures or knitted toys are made in this way.

Wool products, wicker products

At the farm the Tůma family not only produces woolen products and wicker products but also gingerbread and other products. Wool products are woven from their own wool, which is hand washed, combed and woven on yarn. Woven products are then made of it. Mrs. Anna Tůmová received the honorable mention for successful representation in the field of processing sheep wool. In 2007 she was awarded the price of the region chancellor of Hradec Králové Region "The Golden Spinning Wheel" for products in the field of manual wool processing.

Puppets

Alena Gašparová who is keen on various handicrafts makes also puppets. She got the Krkonoše Mountains certificate for the puppet of Krakonoš. The puppet is a marionette on the wire, it is approximately 30 cm high, made of a hardened plaster, painted by hand and accentuated by clothing and other accessories.

Jewels from copper and other precious metals

Original jewels from the studio of Daniela Roudná mainly became popular at the traditional Krkonoše Mountains and Krkonoše Lowlands craft fairs. Spirals are based on the filigree technique, which is nicely complemented by semi-precious stones and wooden beads. With its special design the jewel emphasizes the elegance and the beauty of the wearers.

Bobbin and crochet lace

Lenka Máslová Špetková, a textile artist, is devoted to bobbining which according to her is a very old and beautiful technique that she has fallen in love with. This job is also her big hobby. She bobbins both classic motives – images (little heads, Madonnas, crèches, flowers, architecture, Easter motifs…), blankets and modern lace as jewelry (necklaces, brooches in combination with precious stones…), home accessories (modern paintings – even embossed), scarves and collars.

Wool from Malá Úpa A. P, and sheep wool products

The sheep whose wool is used for products of Mrs. Wondráčková graze on the meadows of Malá Úpa, the wool is processed by hand and even the further processing is entirely manual. They are the products which are knitted, crocheted, woven or webbed. Mrs. Wondráčková not only makes a variety of clothing accessories such as socks, gloves, scarves, hats and jackets but also creates decorative items, especially blankets and images with herbs.

Manually shaped stonemason products from Hořice sandstone

Podchlumí is called "Stone County". The company Kámen Ostroměř, Ltd. is engaged in mining and processing Hořice sandstone which was used for construction, decorative and sculptural purposes in the past. It was used for the completion of St. Vitus´ Cathedral, the reconstruction of the Charles Bridge, the National Theatre, etc. The company quarry sandstone in their own quarry in Podhorní Újezd and then they process it at the premises in Ostroměř.

The set of ceramic products

The production of ceramics has had a long tradition in Hořice. The company Vladimír Kulhánek – The Ceramics Hořice is run by the Kulhánek family together with a partner, Mr. Alois Němec who controls production. At present they produce several hundred kinds of utility and decorative ceramics, in many colors, including traditional painted pottery.

Blacksmith products

Since 1999 artistic blacksmithing and locksmithing Rygl and sons have been engaged in manually artistic blacksmith production, demanding locksmith works (fences, railings, home accessories, mailboxes, lights...) and the renovation of the old, seemingly useless but beautiful works. They are handmade blacksmith products of various styles, types and processing.

Sewn toys

The toys are sewn from natural materials – linen or cotton and are filled by polyester fibre. The most toys have movable legs thanks to buttons. Mainly Czech animals are on offer (goat, deer, donkey, frog, horse, earthworm, mouse, cat, cow), bear, dragon etc.

The Association Neratov, civic association – the sheltered workshop Kopeček (Ceramic products, woven products, basketry products)

The products of the sheltered workshop Kopeček are manually made by the physically disabled. They make beautiful original ceramic products, woven products from carpets to decorated textile and basketry products. In the basketry workshop there works an almost blind basket maker Roman Řezníček. Roman weaves the products from the natural and peeled willow twigs but it is also made of pedig (fiber from liana) of sea grass and reed. Unpeeled twigs come from the region of the Orlické Mountains.

Wooden toys

Wooden toys from Mr. Karel Jirsa please children at fairs in the Orlické Mountains and the surroundings. Mr. Jirsa makes wooden spinning tops, yoyos, roundabouts with animals, snowmen, piggy banks and other figures either simply in a plain wood or colours them. Their beauty, charm and simplicity attract children very much.

Hand bobbin lace from Jana Štefková

Jana Štefková, the same as the generations of lace makers before her, uses the old technology of bobbining, which she adapts according to the taste of modern times. She prefers bobbining jewelry, table sets and image lace.

Stained glass and tiffany technique decorations by Marie Hájková

The original artistically made products please the eye. An artistically processed opal glass to final form; i.e. lamps, windows, doors and things for both utility and joy. The production is a time-consuming process consisting of many tasks. The job itself is very fulfilling as the products bring happiness to the others. It is not only a job or a task – it is mainly great pleasure.

Folk costumes and period clothing by Eva Tatoušková

Under the hand of Mrs. Tatoušková unique old Czech folk costumes flourish. She fixes some and recreates the others in their historical forms as new. This skilful dressmaker estimates that she has sewn more than seventy period clothings. Even museums ask her to sew costumes for their exhibitions.
